Ingredients

4 ripe bananas, mashed

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter. Mix well until the ingredients are creamy and well incorporated.

Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour. Gradually add the dry mixture to the banana mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and finish with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in chocolate and nuts: Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour into pan: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Slice the cake into squares and serve warm or at room temperature. It’s perfect on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side!
