1 tablespoon black food coloring

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

16 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

3-4 cups powdered sugar (to taste)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

For Garnish:

Edible black glitter

Halloween-themed sprinkles (bat shapes, ghost shapes, etc.)

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Add the black food coloring and mix until evenly distributed.

Combine Wet & Dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined (be careful not to overmix). Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and thin.

Bake the Cakes: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Frosting: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, and mix until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Adjust powdered sugar to reach your desired sweetness.

Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top. Repeat with the second layer. Add the third layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

Decorate: Sprinkle edible black glitter over the top and sides of the cake for a spooky touch. Add Halloween-themed sprinkles on top for a festive flair.

Chill & Serve: Allow the cake to chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving to set the frosting. Slice and enjoy your Sinisterly Delicious Black Velvet Halloween Cake!
