1 ½ lbs ground beef

½ cup breadcrumbs

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp dried thyme

1 tbsp olive oil

8 oz mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)

2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Prepare the beef mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix until well combined but avoid over-mixing. Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval patties.

    Cook the patties: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the patties to the skillet in a single layer and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside, covering them with aluminum foil to keep warm.

      Make the mushroom gravy: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté over medium heat until they are browned (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in the flour and cook for an additional minute.

        Add liquids: Pour in the beef broth, followed by the tomato paste and Dijon mustard. Stir well to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for about 5-10 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.

          Combine and serve: Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Spoon the gravy over the patties and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

            Garnish: Transfer the Salisbury steaks to a serving platter and pour the remaining gravy over the top. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
