Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Brownie Batter:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup chocolate chunks (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Cookie Dough:

    - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

      - Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

        - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined, then fold in the chocolate chips. Set aside.

          Prepare the Brownie Batter:

            - In another bowl, melt the butter (you can do this in the microwave or on the stovetop). Allow it to cool slightly, then whisk in the sugar and eggs until smooth.

              - Stir in the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, combine the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mix to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. If desired, fold in chocolate chunks for extra richness.

                Creating the Brookies:

                  - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

                    - To assemble the brookies, scoop out a tablespoon of cookie dough and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Use your finger to make a small well in the center of the dough.

                      - Spoon a small amount of brownie batter into the well of the cookie dough. Repeat this process, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets.

                        Baking:

                          - Bake the brookies in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked; this is perfect for that chewy texture.

                            - Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

                              Serve and Enjoy:

                                - Once cooled, serve your brookies warm with a glass of milk or store in an airtight container for up to a week.
