Ingredients

8 slices sourdough bread

8 ounces sliced turkey breast (deli-style)

8 slices sharp cheddar cheese

6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh spinach or arugula leaves (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bacon: If your bacon isn’t cooked yet, fry the bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels and crumble once cooled.

Make the Spread: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Assemble the Sandwich: Spread a thin layer of the mayo mixture on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. On the unspread side, layer the turkey slices evenly, followed by the crumbled bacon, and then two slices of cheddar cheese. If using, add a handful of fresh spinach or arugula on top of the cheese. Top with another slice of sourdough, spread side up.

Grill the Sandwich: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on the top slice of each sandwich. Place the sandwiches in the skillet, buttered side down. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the underside is golden brown.

Flip and Heat: Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula, add another tablespoon of butter to the top side, and cook for another 3-4 minutes, pressing lightly with the spatula, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, let them cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious Cheddar and Bacon Turkey Melt!
