Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup (240ml) ketchup

1 tbsp yellow mustard

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups (240g) shredded cheddar cheese

1 bag (32 oz or 900g) frozen tater tots

½ cup (120ml) milk

2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess grease, if necessary.

      Sauté Vegetables: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.

        Add Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

          Combine with Cheese: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, mixing until just combined.

            Layer the Casserole: In a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish, spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom. Pour the milk over the beef mixture.

              Top with Tater Tots: Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the beef mixture, ensuring they cover the whole surface.

                Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

                  Add Remaining Cheese: Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top, and return it to the oven for another 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                    Garnish & Serve: Once done, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
