Garlic bread has long been a beloved staple in kitchens worldwide. Its origins can be traced back to various cultures, each offering its unique twist on this simple yet flavorful dish. In Italy, for instance, bruschetta—grilled bread topped with garlic, olive oil, and herbs—is a classic antipasto. In contrast, French cuisine boasts the well-known "baguette à l’ail," a garlicky loaf that’s often paired with soups or stews. Wherever you find it, garlic bread has become synonymous with comfort and indulgence.

Ingredients

1 large French baguette or Italian bread

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic, dried parsley, dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper until well combined.

Slice the Bread: Cut the baguette or Italian bread in half lengthwise. If you prefer individual pieces, you can also slice it into smaller sections.

Spread the Garlic Butter: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture on the cut sides of the bread, ensuring an even coat to absorb all the flavors.

Add the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the buttered bread halves. Make sure to cover every inch for a cheesy experience!

Bake: Place the bread halves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly.

Broil for Extra Crispiness: For a golden and crispy top, switch the oven to broil mode and broil for an additional 1-2 minutes, keeping a close eye to avoid burning.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Cut into slices and serve warm.
