Ingredients

8 oz elbow macaroni

2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

Salt and black pepper to taste

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 6-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the whole milk and heavy cream, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and bubbles, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Seasonings: Reduce the heat to low, and stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Slowly add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese, stirring until fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, mixing well to ensure all noodles are coated.

Prepare for Baking: Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Make the Topping: In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with olive oil and paprika (if using) until the breadcrumbs are well coated. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the mac and cheese.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy, cheesy goodness!
