Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Make the Crumble Topping: In another bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold cubed butter to the bowl and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. If you’re adding nuts, fold them in now.

Assemble the Crumble: Evenly spread the crumble topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, let the crumble sit for about 10-15 minutes to cool slightly before serving. It can be enjoyed warm on its own or topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream.
