8 ounces fettuccine or linguine pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup heavy cream

Zest of 1 lemon

1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Freshly cracked black pepper, for serving

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: Begin by boiling a large pot of salted water. Add the fettuccine or linguine and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water, and set aside.

    Sauté the Shrimp: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil. Once hot, season the shrimp with salt and pepper, and add to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

      Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Add the lemon zest, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

        Combine Ingredients: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and let it melt into the sauce, creating a creamy texture. If the sauce seems too thick, add some reserved pasta water, a little at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
