For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

4 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2-3 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Prep the Oven and Pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

    Make the Chocolate Layer:

      - In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

        - In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

          - Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.

            - Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk until smooth.

              - Pour the batter into one of the prepared pans.

                Make the Vanilla Layer:

                  - Repeat the same steps as the chocolate layer using the ingredients for the vanilla layer.

                    - Pour the vanilla batter into the second prepared pan.

                      Make the Strawberry Layer:

                        - Again, repeat the same process, incorporating the strawberry puree into the wet ingredients.

                          - Pour into the third pan.

Bake the Cakes: Bake each layer for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

                              Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:

                                - In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth.

                                  - Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until fluffy.

                                    - Stir in the vanilla and add milk as needed to achieve your desired consistency.

                                      Assemble the Cake:

                                        - On a serving plate, place the chocolate layer and spread a layer of frosting on top.

                                          - Add the vanilla layer and repeat the frosting.

                                            - Place the strawberry layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.

Chill and Serve: Allow the cake to sit for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator before slicing. This helps the layers settle and the frosting to firm up a bit.

Garnish (optional): For added flair, top with fresh strawberries, chocolate shavings, or drizzles of chocolate sauce.

                                                  Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 2 hours | Servings: 12
