Creamy Tomato Basil Pasta

12 oz (340g) pasta of your choice (fettuccine or penne works great)

2 tbsp olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus more for garnish)

Red pepper flakes, for heat (optional)

Extra Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.

    Prepare the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.

      Add Crushed Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and bring the mixture to a simmer. Add the dried oregano and season with salt and pepper. Allow it to simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

        Make it Creamy: Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined and creamy. If the sauce gets too thick, add some reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.

          Combine Pasta & Sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing it with the sauce until well coated. Stir in the chopped fresh basil and adjust the seasoning with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired.

            Serve: Serve the pasta hot, garnishing with additional fresh basil and extra Parmesan cheese on top. Enjoy your creamy creation!
