Ingredients

1 lb ground chicken

1 tbsp olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes, drained

3 tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)

1 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp brown sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hamburger buns (preferably toasted)

Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, chopped green onions

Instructions

Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and continue to sauté for another minute until fragrant.

Cook the Chicken: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground chicken to the skillet. Using a wooden spoon, break it apart. Cook until the chicken is fully cooked and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.

Combine Ingredients: Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.

Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the chicken mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken. Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.

Prepare the Buns: While the mixture simmers, toast the hamburger buns until golden brown, either in a toaster or on a skillet.

Assemble Sloppy Joes: Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom half of the toasted buns. Add any optional toppings like sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or chopped green onions.

Serve: Place the top half of the buns on the chicken mixture and serve hot. Enjoy your hearty Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes!
