Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal later.

Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, until well combined.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the Pecans and Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips into the batter.

Spread the Batter: Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly across the bottom.

Drizzle Caramel Sauce: Pour half of the caramel sauce over the batter in an even layer. Then, add the remaining batter on top, spreading it gently (it’s okay if some caramel peeks through).

Finish with Caramel and Nuts: Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with any remaining pecans.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Cut: Allow the turtle bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cool, lift them out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares or bars and enjoy!
