Ingredients

12 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese (cut into sticks)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup bread crumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

Preparation of Cheese Sticks: Start by cutting the fresh mozzarella into thick sticks, about 3-4 inches long. Place them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes; this helps them hold their shape when frying.

Set Up Breading Stations: In three separate shallow bowls, prepare the breading stations:

      - Flour bowl: Place the all-purpose flour in the first bowl.

        - Egg wash bowl: In the second bowl, whisk the eggs until well blended.

          - Bread crumb mixture bowl: In the third bowl, combine the bread crumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese.

Coating the Cheese Sticks: Once the mozzarella sticks are slightly firm, remove them from the freezer.

              - First, coat each stick in flour, tapping off excess.

                - Next, dip it into the egg wash, ensuring it’s coated evenly.

                  - Finally, roll the stick in the bread crumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

Double Coating (optional): For an extra crispy texture, repeat the egg wash and bread crumb steps once more for each stick. This creates a thicker coating that adds crunch.

Frying: In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Carefully, fry the cheese sticks in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry each batch for about 2-3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

Draining: Once they are golden, use a slotted spoon to remove the sticks from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving: Serve hot, accompanied by a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
