Air frying has gained immense popularity as a cooking method that allows for the creation of crispy and delicious dishes with significantly less oil than traditional frying. At its core, air frying uses hot air circulation to cook food, creating a crispy exterior while retaining moisture inside. This unique cooking process is made possible by a powerful fan that circulates hot air around the food, mimicking the effect of deep frying without the need for large quantities of oil.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 1.5 lbs)

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional for a kick)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for spice)

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken:

    - In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk and hot sauce (if using). Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour (or up to overnight for extra tenderness).

      Prepare the Breading:

        - In a separate shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to ensure all spices are evenly distributed.

          Coat the Chicken:

            - Remove the chicken from the marinade and let any excess buttermilk drip off. Dredge each piece of chicken in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breading. Shake off any excess flour and place the chicken on a plate.

              Preheat the Air Fryer:

                - Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

                  Air Fry the Chicken:

                    - Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the coated chicken thighs in a single layer in the basket, making sure not to overcrowd. Depending on your air fryer size, you may need to cook in batches.

                      - Spray the tops of the chicken lightly with cooking spray for an extra crispy finish.

                        - Air fry the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes. Flip each piece and cook for an additional 8-10 minutes or until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).

                          Serve and Enjoy:

                            - Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside a fresh salad for a complete meal. Enjoy your crispy, juicy chicken!
