Ingredients

4 chicken thighs, boneless and skinless

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ginger, grated

1 teaspoon five-spice powder

1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional, for color)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Spring onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, and red food coloring (if using). Whisk until well combined. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.

Prepare for Baking: Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Reserve the marinade for later use.

Bake the Chicken: Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade every 10 minutes to keep it moist and flavorful. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C) when done.

Broil for Finish: Once cooked, switch the oven to broil. Broil the chicken for an additional 3-5 minutes until the edges become caramelized and slightly charred, keeping a close watch to prevent burning.

Rest and Slice: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Slice into strips and arrange on a serving platter.

Garnish and Serve: Drizzle with any leftover marinade if desired, and sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped spring onions over the top. Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
