Ingredients

For the Patty Melts:

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

8 slices of rye bread

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

For the Zesty Secret Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon pickle relish

1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Zesty Secret Sauce:

    - In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle relish, and hot sauce.

      - Mix until smooth and well-blended. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

        Form the Patties:

          - In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

            - Mix gently to combine, then divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.

              Cook the Onions:

                - Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

                  Cook the Patties:

                    - In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat.

                      - Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip and place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty, cooking for another 4-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

                        Assemble the Patty Melts:

                          - Spread a generous layer of the zesty secret sauce on one side of each slice of rye bread.

                            - Place a cooked patty with melted cheese on top of 4 slices of bread, add a portion of the sautéed onions, then top with another slice of bread (sauce side down) to complete the sandwich.

                              Grill the Sandwiches:

                                - Wipe the skillet clean, and add a little more butter if needed.

                                  - Place the sandwiches in the skillet over medium heat, grilling each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Press down slightly with a spatula for even grilling.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Remove the patty melts from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot with extra zesty secret sauce on the side for dipping.
