Ingredients

For the Danish Dough:

1 package (13.5 oz) King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, thawed

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dusting and rolling)

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Zest of 1 lemon

1 egg yolk

For the Pineapple Topping:

1 cup fresh pineapple, diced

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Glaze:

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

Prepare the Danish Dough: On a lightly floured surface, take the thawed King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls and gently flatten each roll with your hands. Roll each piece into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and egg yolk. Mix until smooth and well blended.

Assemble the Danish: Place a generous spoonful of the cream cheese filling in the center of each rolled-out piece of dough. Fold the corners of the dough over the filling, pinching to seal. Arrange each Danish on the prepared baking sheet.

Prepare the Pineapple Topping: In a small skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced pineapple, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until the pineapple has softened and caramelized slightly. Remove from heat and let cool for a couple of minutes.

Top the Danish: Spoon some of the sautéed pineapple topping over each Danish, spreading it evenly over the cream cheese filling.

Bake the Danish: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the danishes are golden brown and puffed.

Make the Glaze: While the danishes are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Drizzle and Serve: Once the danishes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Drizzle the glaze over the hot danishes and serve warm. Enjoy the sweet Hawaiian twist!
