Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

6 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled

1/4 cup maple syrup

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk and maple syrup until well combined.

Gradually add the buttermilk mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a knife or a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds of dough.

Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each biscuit.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Brush with additional maple syrup if desired and sprinkle with fresh chives for garnish.

Serve warm and enjoy the delightful combination of sweet, savory, and cheesy flavors!
