Ingredients

For the Crust:

1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs

⅓ cup granulated sugar

⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Filling:

1 ¼ cups whole milk

½ cup heavy cream

1 cup granulated sugar

3 large egg yolks

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

3 tablespoons cornstarch

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

For the Topping:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Crust:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

      - In a mixing bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar, and melted butter. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.

        - Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish to form the crust.

          - Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow to cool completely.

            Make the Chocolate Filling:

              - In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, and half of the sugar (½ cup). Heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.

                - In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, remaining sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.

                  - Once the milk mixture is hot, slowly ladle about a cup of the hot liquid into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.

                    - Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk and cream. Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble (about 5-7 minutes).

                      - Remove from heat and stir in the chopped chocolate and vanilla extract until smooth.

                        Assemble the Pie:

                          - Pour the chocolate filling into the cooled graham cracker crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.

                            - Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until fully set.

                              Prepare the Whipped Topping:

                                - In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.

                                  - Spoon or pipe the whipped cream over the chilled pie.

                                    Garnish and Serve:

                                      - Add chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder on top of the whipped cream for extra flair.

                                        - Slice and serve this delightful chocolate cream pie chilled, and enjoy the smiles it brings!
