Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup whole milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup powdered sugar (for a richer texture)

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix well.

Add the whole milk and unsalted butter to the dry mix and stir until well combined.

Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently until the mixture comes to a full boil. Continue to boil without stirring for exactly 2 minutes.

Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes.

Stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating with a whisk until smooth and well blended.

Allow the icing to cool slightly until it's spreadable but still pourable. If it thickens too much, you can place it over low heat to loosen it up.

Pour or spread the icing over your cooled cake or brownies. Allow the icing to set before slicing.

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 20 minutes | Servings: Enough to ice a 9x13 inch cake or a dozen brownies
