Ingredients

1 box of yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 cup powdered sugar

8 oz cream cheese, softened

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Prepare the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Mix until well combined and the batter is thick, but not too dry.

Spread the Base: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, using a spatula to evenly spread it out across the bottom of the pan.

Create the Cream Cheese Layer: In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, 2 eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Layer the Cream Cheese Mixture: Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake mix layer and spread it evenly across the batter. (You can sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top if using.)

Bake the Bars: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly jiggly (it will firm up as it cools).

Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes. Once cooled, lift out with parchment paper and cut into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Enjoy: Indulge in the wonderful gooeyness of these delightfully rich cake mix bars!
