Ingredients

12 lasagna noodles

1 lb ground beef

6 slices of bacon, chopped

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Bacon and Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, leaving about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the skillet. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.

Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion to the same skillet and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked bacon back to the skillet along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Cook the Lasagna Noodles: While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain and lay them flat on a towel.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, ½ cup of Parmesan cheese, and the egg. Mix until well combined.

Assemble the Lasagna: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles and top with a third of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers once more (noodles, ricotta, sauce). Add the final layer of noodles and top with the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Let it Rest: Once done, remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired. Cut into squares and serve hot.
