Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey

1/4 cup smoked cheddar cheese, shredded

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

4 whole wheat burger buns

4 lettuce leaves (your choice)

1 large tomato, sliced

1/4 red onion, thinly sliced

Olive oil for grilling

Instructions

Mix the Turkey Patty Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, smoked cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, approximately ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.

Grill the Patties: Once the grill is hot, carefully place the turkey patties on the grill. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on one side, then flip and grill for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Toast the Buns: In the last few minutes of cooking, place the whole wheat burger buns cut-side down on the grill, toasting them lightly until golden brown.

Assemble the Burgers: Once the turkey patties are cooked thoroughly, remove them from the grill. Place each patty on the toasted bun and top with lettuce, a slice of tomato, and red onion. You can also add your choice of condiments and toppings like pickles or avocado.

Serve: Serve the smoky grilled turkey burgers hot with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
