Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Batter:

      - In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.

        - Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, mix until smooth.

          - Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gently fold into the wet ingredients.

            - Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Set aside.

              Prepare the Cookie Dough:

                - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

                    - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

                      - Fold in the chocolate chips.

                        Layer in the Pan:

                          - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

                            - Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula or knife to gently swirl the cookie dough into the brownie batter for a marbled effect. Don’t overmix; you want to see both layers.

                              Bake:

                                - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).

                                  - Keep an eye on baking time as ovens may vary; aim for a fudgy texture.

                                    Cool and Serve:

                                      - Remove the browkies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 15 minutes. Use the parchment overhang to lift them out and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

                                        - Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles. Enjoy your fudgy chewy browkies with a glass of cold milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
