Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Prepare the Brownie Layer:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate chips together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

        - Stir in the granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

          - Gently fold in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined. Avoid overmixing. Set aside.

            Prepare the Cookie Layer:

              - In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

                - Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well until fully combined.

                  - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

                    Assemble the Browkies:

                      - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly across the bottom.

                        - Using a spoon or your hands, drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Gently spread it out to cover as much of the brownie layer as possible, but it’s okay if a little brownie peeks through.

                          Bake:

                            - Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

                              - Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for 15-20 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper (if lined) and let them cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares.

                                Serve:

                                  - Once cooled, cut into squares and serve. Enjoy your fudgy, chewy browkies with a glass of milk or a scoop of ice cream!
