Ingredients

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 tablespoon red food coloring

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

¼ teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping)

Cream cheese frosting (for topping, store-bought or homemade, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, and mix until smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Take care not to overmix. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Transfer Batter to Pan: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top for an extra touch.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).

Cool and Frost: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. If desired, top with cream cheese frosting for a delicious contrast to the fudgy brownies.

Slice and Serve: Once cooled, cut into squares and serve. Enjoy your fudgy, red velvet brownies with a glass of cold milk or on their own as a decadent treat!
